NOVEMBER 29, 2021 - TRAPPING REPORT

Image
MORE RESIDENTS GET INVOLVED HELPING TRAPPERS Trapping started last week on Monday, November 22, 2021 with one of the resident trappers who is in the Magnolias zone. She was able to trap a black and white male for whom she named Vaca. Because she knows this cat, he was eager for food and entered the trap quickly. The trapper took him down to Veronica our local vet and business partner and he was neutered. He was later picked up and returned to a cozy home to relax. He was released back to his home around 14:30. It is so wonderful to have residents of Cumbre del Sol so involved with keeping the CumbreCat campaign active. Bravo !! Over in the Lirios zone Monday, November 22, 2021, another neighbour was once again taking control of his CumbreCats and doing his own trapping. He was able to do the entire process, from trapping to vets to recovery to returning the cat. He was like a professional. This is the 6th CumbreCat that he has trapped from his area where there is a little colony. He is...

CHRISTMAS ARTS & CRAFTS - FUNDRAISER REPORT

Image
THANK YOU  CumbreCats Arts & Crafts Christmas Fundraiser was blessed with sunny, but at times windy, weather. That didn't stop the Spanish shortbreads, German Stollen bread, and English mincemeat tarts from being circulated to our guests as they browsed the creativity of our local artisans and gambled their luck on our Tombola. Funds are still being collected from sources, but at the time of this report, we collected approximately 900 euros for the CumbreCats campaign. The exact result will be in the next funding report when the money is given to our partner Verónica the local vet. We record all funds with a giant receipt and photo. ABOUT THE EVENT Our local creative clay ceramics sensation, Ariane was hard at working showing guests how she prepares her statues. The demonstration is always interesting and our guests tend to order her items of which she shares her profits with the CumbreCats. Fantastic!  Sharing her table were the ladies from the workshop Amigas de C...

NOVEMBER 22, 2021 - TRAPPING REPORT

Image
On Monday, November 15, 2021, the husband and wife trapping team of Lirios have become experts.  Following their usual system of withholding food the night before and trapping early in the morning has proven the winning action. The husband and wife team has now become just the husband as he has taken over the whole process. The cats know him, and they trust him, so he is finding that the trapping is easier for him.  On this day, he caught a black male with white paws and took it to our village Vet. Then in the afternoon, he picked up the CumbreCat to recover in his recovery room. Then he returned the cat to its garden home. Then he took the trap over to another trapper. GOOD WORK HUSBAND!!   The resident CumbreCat lover and caregiver over in Magnolias has become a good trapper. On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, she was busy again in her garden with a trap and a male CumbreCat. The trapping was done very quickly and she also did the drop off at the vets and the pickup, then r...

NOVEMBER 15, 2021 - TRAPPING REPORT

Image
On Monday, November 8, 2021 our newest wife and husband trapping team had fantastic success.  Early in the morning, the husband set up a trap with tasty food. He was targetting another black CumbreCat who was part of small colony of 7.  Happily the black male couldn´t resist the tasty smell of the prepared food. He was easy to trap. The husband took him to the vets about 9:30. He met another Cumbre trapper there who offered to pick up his captured cat when she picked up her trapped cats at midday. This kind of co operation saves time and trips down the mountain to the village.     On the same day, Monday, November 8, 2021, another trapper was out in the Monte Cala zone arranging a trapping session with some neighbours. One month ago, a Cumbre resident and CumbreCat caretaker informed the trappers of two cats who needed neutering. They were coming to him for food, so he knew them well.  One of the trappers tried twice to catch the cats but they were v...

MAKING A DIFFERENCE - LARGEST PRIVATE DONATION TO DATE!! 345.00 EUROS Local Cumbre del Sol artist and crafter - Ariane, was inspired by the grand Baroque masterpiece Las Meninas (The Maids) painted in 1656 by Diego Velázquez, the leading artist of the Spanish Golden Age. She chose to craft fantastic silhouettes of the Princess Margarita from clay and fire them in a spender of exotic glazes. Her creations sell like hotcakes too!! And, to celebrate her joy, she donates a percentage of her sales to the CumbreCats.  Supported by her handsome hubby, Ariane is making a difference in our community. I wish everyone was a kind and generous as this amazing woman.   You can meet Ariane at the CumbreCats Christmas Fundraiser on the 27th of November and if your order one of her custom creations, you too will be contributing to the control of the feral cats on Cumbre de Sol.

NOVEMBER 7, 2021 - TRAPPING REPORT & KITTENS!

Image
On Friday, October 29, 2021, CumbreCats trappers were in Olivos zone. They had agreed with a cat carer-neighbour to capture a pretty young female who was the offsprintg of a long-haired CumbreCat that avoided being trapped last winter. Over the season, she had given birth to kittens but only one survived. The trap was set at feeding time and prepared with some nice smelly food. According to trappers, the cat followed the trail of food that led directly into the cage, but only made it halfway before backing out again. Luckily she mustered the courage to enter the trap again and this time ate her way into the back of the trap. With a click the door, the trap was shut. She arrived at the vet's clinic at 9:00 sharp. Her sterilization went well early in the morning and she was collected again. She rested in a quiet room to recover from the anesthetic then in the evening, she was released back to where she came from. She was  welcomed back by the big boss cat of the colony,...
