NOVEMBER 15, 2021 - TRAPPING REPORT

On Monday, November 8, 2021 our newest wife and husband trapping team had fantastic success.

Early in the morning, the husband set up a trap with tasty food. He was targetting another black CumbreCat who was part of small colony of 7.

Happily the black male couldn´t resist the tasty smell of the prepared food. He was easy to trap. The husband took him to the vets about 9:30. He met another Cumbre trapper there who offered to pick up his captured cat when she picked up her trapped cats at midday. This kind of co operation saves time and trips down the mountain to the village.

On the same day, Monday, November 8, 2021, another trapper was out in the Monte Cala zone arranging a trapping session with some neighbours.

One month ago, a Cumbre resident and CumbreCat caretaker informed the trappers of two cats who needed neutering. They were coming to him for food, so he knew them well.

One of the trappers tried twice to catch the cats but they were very shy and not interested in the treats used to get them into the cage. The trapper decided to wait until the neighbour and his wife were back on Cumbre to try again. As soon as they returned, the word went around the CumbreCats community that the feeders were back and the ferals started to come around once again.

Sticken with too much rain and wind during the week made it nearly impossible to trap, but on Monday they got lucky. The neighbours didn´t feed the CumbreCats on the Sunday evening and when the trapper arrived with her trap, there were three hungry cats waiting.

In this trio it was noticed that 2 were not done but one was neutered already. The trapper prepared her trap and the neighbour wanted to watch the trapping. Funnily enough, the CumbreCats were so fixed on him and couldn´t decide if they should wait for food from their beloved cat feeder or if they should accept the food in the trap.

The trapper kindly asked the neighbour to return in his apartment and to close the door. Then the cats started to jump around the trap, and darted in and out again Then they were frightened when dog walkers came around.

The trapper refilled the trap once more with neighbours food, because they love this kind type of meat pieces with sauce food. Sadly, instead of enter the trap, they tried to grab the pieces from outside. In one second all pieces were eaten. Now the trapper had to lay a very small trail of little food pieces from the entrance to the end of the trap... and this worked! It took three tries but never mind as the important part is that they were going into the trap.

A black CumbreCat was the first trapped and the trapper found her to be a wildwoman! The trapper had to cover her quickly with a blanket but that didn´t even calm her down. This was the first time that the trapper had to keep a good distance. It was difficult to transfer this wild CumbreCat to a carrier box in order to free up the trap for the next cat. When the trapper got the feral female into her car, she finally calmed down.

There was a bengal type cat that had disappeared in the opposite garden but the trapper could tell that she too was  hungry. Quickly, the trapper got the trap ready and set up at the garden wall. It was prepared with food and the special biscuit from the neighbour, which all the CumbreCats love!  The trapper lured her closer and then hid behind the car. In approximately three minutes, she was in the trap and the trapper closed the door.

The trapper was grateful for the support and co operation of these Cumbre neighbours who made the whole event less stressful for both the cats and the trapper.

The trapper dropped off the CumbreCats to Veronica and picked them up again at 13:00 H.

This trapper also picked up the cat dropped off earlier and deliever this cat to the home of this kind neighour. to recover and then be released.

The 2 female CumbreCats from Monte Cala slept in a quiet room until very late in the evening before they were released back to their home area.

Next day, the neighbour and his wife saw the black female come for her breakfast and the bengal came in the afternoon for lunch. This return to peace and harmony brought smiles and satisfaction to the trapper.

On behalf of CumbreCats, it is the support and co operation of kind, cat loving neighbours who make the life of thise creatures more secure, and with their generous donation, happy. Love Wins Again!

On Tuesday, November 9, 2021 one of the CumbreCats trappers was in the Magnolias zone in order to capture yet another cat that resides in a small colony. This trapper is also a feeder so the cats trust her. She was able to just grab the cat and pop her into a carrier box.

The cat was whisked down to the vets and picked up again in order to recover in a warm and safe room in the trappers house. The female was release back to the colony in the eventing.

It is a great relief to have this colonly under control.

Thank you to this caring neighbour who took the steps necessary to make this happen!!
