When a pregnant CumbreCat mother was in need, this neighbour reached out to her with a hand of compassion and care. In the days of her pregnancy, the CumbreCat mother felt the warmth of his kindness, and when her three precious kittens saw the light of day, she couldn't wait to share her joy with her newfound friend. She paraded her adorable bundles of fur on his doorstep as if to say, "Look what we've created together!" But as so often happens, life also brought with it a touch of sadness. WHO IS THAT KITTY IN THE WINDOW?  Trapper Report: "Another new macho cat had appeared in the Olivos zone. Perhaps it had been abandoned, for it was very friendly and used to human touch. He started visiting my kitchen window and made a habit of coming every morning. These regular visits to the window led to another "kitchen window trapping opportunity" like I had done before. I set the trap with food, and he walked through the window straight into the trap, and we drove to the vet. He looked very scruffy and skinny, but Veronica, the vet, said he was fine. Nevertheless, I ordered a blood test at my own expense, just to be sure. It turned out that he was fine, and he was neutered and brought back early in the evening. A KITCHEN CAPER Trapper Report: "A few months ago, a large white macho CumbreCat with a grey tail moved into the Olivos zone. He has made a habit of visiting my kitchen window to beg for food. At first only in the evenings, but he started showing up in the mornings too, which provided a good opportunity to trap him. He is mostly white, and his ear was already showing signs of skin cancer.  I had planned to trap another cat, a white and grey macho nearby, but when this very large white male showed up very early in the morning, I could not resist trying my luck with him.  I prepared the trap with some smelly food, and gradually he plucked up enough courage to come in through the kitchen window, after nibbling on the counter, down to the floor where the trap was set. I had to make myself invisible, but I could hear him eating and after 15 minutes of rooting for him, he went all the way into the trap.  When I heard the click, I covered the whole trap with a big dark towel. COMMUNITY COMPASSION  The humane treatment of stray cats is a fundamental responsibility that requires compassion, education and proactive measures to ensure their welfare.  It is wonderful to realise that together we have created a community where stray cats are treated with kindness and respect, ultimately improving their quality of life and reducing the population of homeless cats. POOR PUSSY HAD A BAD PAW Trapper Report: "Once again our CumbreCat caretaker in the Monte Cala area had to use her homemade trap to capture an injured cat. A fluffy grey CumbreCat, already neutered, was discovered with a badly swollen paw. He was limping and licking his paw. The caretaker first tried the normal trap, but the cat gave the trap a wide berth to avoid it. He trusted the caretaker, so she could approach him. While he was eating, she was able to catch him with her self-made trap. She immediately called me to help transfer him to the metal box. The next morning he was taken to Veronica,...

WOW, WHAT AN AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT!  Thanks to the incredible generosity of the wonderful people who attended our fundraiser lunch, a whopping €324 was raised. Today, it was used to purchase high quality cat food from the fantastic Victor's in the charming village of Benitachell, who allows us to leave a cat food donation basket right at their front door! The Victor's staff were absolutely fantastic and tirelessly filled bag after bag of delicious and nutritious cat food. They even helped load everything into the car.  The grand total? An impressive 280 kilogrammes of cat food! Thanks to this incredible effort, we can split the food equally between our beloved CumbreCats and the village cats of the amazing organisation Gatos Felices.  This is truly an outstanding result that would not have been possible without the support and kindness of everyone involved. TREATING OUR CUMBRECATS WITH CARE Trapper's Report "As many of you know, it is always very difficult to get a cat that has already been caught into a trap a second time. Nevertheless, I tried again. The poor CumbreCat has been having problems with parasites for some time now, and they are massively bothering him. But mostly they are so cautious and fearful that you can not treat them without trapping them. Equipped with all kinds of fish and tasty treats, I started my attempt. One difficulty is that in Begonias, there is an already neutered female, and she is totally greedy and has absolutely no fear of anything. When she smells something to eat, she always runs into any trap. So I have to keep her busy so that the focused cat has enough time to go into the trap. However, since I trapped his friend a couple of weeks ago, and he did not come back, he was very wary. For your information, his friend was very sick and had to be put down. We owe the "fun" in Fundraiser to a fabulous group of very kind people who supported our Feed The Cats campaign on Saturday 29 April 2023. The team at Antiquary Restaurante in our village of Benitachell lovingly prepared a fantastic pizza lunch with the most delicious tiramisu you can imagine. It started with drinks, then salad and pizza and yes, we had tiramisu and coffee at the end. Afterwards there was a raffle along with some very strange cat jokes which elicited a few sad groans, but all in good fun! We managed to gather everyone for a happy group photo with sunglasses before the afternoon came to an end. A total of 324.00 Euros was raised, plus two bags of cat food. We will spend this money at Victor's pet food shop in the village and see if we can get a discount on bulk orders of cat food to help all our dedicated cat carers.
