CUMBRECAT TRAP TO THE RESCUE On Tuesday, January 11, 2022, our head trapper was called over to the zone of MonteCala by a concerned neighbour. In this zone is a very kind CumbreCat caretaker and she was concerned about a young black and white female named Patch who was exceptionally pretty and was being courted by a couple of macho males, or she thought. The head trapper reports: "At once, I spotted the huge macho CumbreCat that we named BRUISER was hanging around the young pretty gal with his big babymakers dancing around. Then another black macho appeared and seemed to be wanting to court her as well. I realized that there was no time to waste and that I really had to hurry up.  I messaged the caretaker to please not feed the cats for one evening and that I would come the next day to try and trap both the female and the macho men. I came the next mornig with my traps and a kitten who was already neutered started to hang around, so I had to lure it away with some dry food....

FOR THE GRACE OF KINDNESS We start the year with a story that reminds us all that kindness is the giver of grace. Regular readers will remember that the Caregiver for the colony of CumbreCat in the Kalmias zone had been keeping her eye on a kitten who was poorly. The Trappers had made a plan to neuter a small family but the one kitten needed to go to the emergency vet in Benissa for an x-ray and an echocardiogram, plus some other tests. The kitten was then put on antibiotics for 10 days. The caregiver kindly paid for all of this because she could not let the small kitten suffer. Our head trapper was in daily contact with the caregiver for updates on the kitten. At first, the kitten was not eating or drinking. According to the caregiver, "She has been totally unresponsive to anything and has not moved in two days. My heart is breaking for her." Fingers were crossed for luck for the wee soul. The following day (Dec. 23, 2021) the kitten was back at the vets in Benissa. The vet ...

CHRISTMAS GENEROSITY FOR THE CATS OF CUMBRE DEL SOL On December 19, 2021, the CumbreCats team along with the Cumbre Creatives Collective were at the Benitachell Christmas street market. Many Thanks to all of the people who supported the table with the hand made and unique gifts, but to all the people who continued to make donations after the event was over!! It is amazing how many people see what we are doing and want to help with donations. It is a good feeling to know that we the most generous of friends and neighbours in this campaign.  "Generosity is the most natural outward expression of an inner attitude of compassion and loving-kindness. When one desires to alleviate the suffering of others and to promote their well-being, then generosity - in action, word, and thought - is this desire put into practice. It is important to recognize the "generosity" here refers not just to giving in a material sense, but to generosity of the heart." *- Dalai Lama

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS! On Sunday, December 12, 2021, in Pueblo de la Luz a white and ginger male by the name of Chico II was finally trapped. This CumbreCat has been leading a charmed life with his caregiver but the time had come for his baby-makers to go! The caregiver was able to trap the big boy easily because of their trusting relationship. The caregiver continued with the process of getting the cat to our community vet in a transport box. She later picked him up and let him relax and recover in her warm house. Towards the evening the CumbreCat was let return to his area and friends. CumbreCats Campaign team is very grateful to this loving cat caregiver and her husband as they have taken on the small colony to feed and watch over in a friendly and humane way. It is people like this that make the world and especially our community a better place to live. 💘 On Thursday, December 16, 2021, our head trapper was out in the Kalmias zone with the aim of trapping the remai...

CUMBRE COOPERATION WINS AGAIN! On Friday, December 10, 2021, in the Kalmias zone, our head trapper was out with the newest trapper on the team in order to capture and neuter some mature kittens. The CumbreCats team was informed months ago that a little family, a mother with 4 lovely kittens moved into a garden of cat lovers in Kalmias.  According to the head of the trapping team, "We did the mother as soon as possible and the community cat lover fed the kittens. As we were not quite sure about the age, because obviously nobody knows the date of birth, we estimated that they were approximately 5-6 months based on their size. The trapping appointment was set to be in the morning so the kittens were only fed a little food the evening before. The logic of this action was because the mother was not around and we were afraid that the kittens would go off and find another feeding place before we had a chance.  So it was decided that the caregiver only fed them a tiny dinner and they ...
