DECEMBER 14, 2021 - TRAPPING REPORT -

CUMBRE COOPERATION WINS AGAIN!

On Friday, December 10, 2021, in the Kalmias zone, our head trapper was out with the newest trapper on the team in order to capture and neuter some mature kittens.

The CumbreCats team was informed months ago that a little family, a mother with 4 lovely kittens moved into a garden of cat lovers in Kalmias.

According to the head of the trapping team, "We did the mother as soon as possible and the community cat lover fed the kittens. As we were not quite sure about the age, because obviously nobody knows the date of birth, we estimated that they were approximately 5-6 months based on their size.

The trapping appointment was set to be in the morning so the kittens were only fed a little food the evening before. The logic of this action was because the mother was not around and we were afraid that the kittens would go off and find another feeding place before we had a chance.  So it was decided that the caregiver only fed them a tiny dinner and they will come back the next morning for more.

This is exactly what happened. They were there in the morning, waiting for us.

They were a bit astonished and scared of the big green trap with food inside but the first sniffed a bit and started to eat the first piece at the entrance, then the second portion at the middle, and finally was complete at the end of the trap so the new trapper could push the 'close' button on the automated CumbreCats trapping cage.

Of course, the noise and confusion of the event scared the other kittens and they all disappeared very quickly.

We swapped this kitten over to the carrier box so that the trap was free again. We prepared the trap in the same way but put it closer to their hiding place. We waited but nothing happened. Not one cat was seen. The caretaker tried to lure them with her voice but the kittens didn´t trust this. Then I put a little piece of their usual food into the trap BUT NO CAT. Either they were not interested or they didn´t trust this food. Then I offered another kind of fish food. 2 pieces of this smelly fish food on the rocks near the trap and 3 little pieces in the trap.

We waited another 10 minutes until the first white head carefully appeared between the bushes. Very slowly, step by step, the little one came closer and finally was overwhelmed by this tasty smell and it entered the trap and was caught.

After 30 minutes 2 cats were trapped so we decided that the others had to wait until another day.

The newest trapper took the kittens to Veronica the vet and their caregiver picked them up again at 14:00. Both slept in a warm room for their recovery. The boy was released in the evening and the girl remained in the overnight cage and was released the next morning. They were all reunited."

What a team of incredible, caring animal lovers!
