JANUARY 8, 2022 - TRAPPING REPORT FULL OF GOOD NEWS!!

FOR THE GRACE OF KINDNESS

We start the year with a story that reminds us all that kindness is the giver of grace. Regular readers will remember that the Caregiver for the colony of CumbreCat in the Kalmias zone had been keeping her eye on a kitten who was poorly.

The Trappers had made a plan to neuter a small family but the one kitten needed to go to the emergency vet in Benissa for an x-ray and an echocardiogram, plus some other tests. The kitten was then put on antibiotics for 10 days. The caregiver kindly paid for all of this because she could not let the small kitten suffer.

Our head trapper was in daily contact with the caregiver for updates on the kitten.

At first, the kitten was not eating or drinking.

According to the caregiver, "She has been totally unresponsive to anything and has not moved in two days. My heart is breaking for her."

Fingers were crossed for luck for the wee soul.

The following day (Dec. 23, 2021) the kitten was back at the vets in Benissa. The vet said that now she had pneumonia as well as lungworm. They decided to keep her at the vet in an oxygen tank to help her breathe and give her some different antibiotics.

Prayers were sent for her recovery.

On the 24th, the caregiver told us that the kitten was still in Benissa on oxygen but there was an improvement and she had eaten some food.

Hopes were high that this CumbreCat kitten could be a Christmas Miracle!!

On the 29th, the caregiver reported that the kitten was still on oxygen and had more x-rays and blood tests. The vet did not know if she would be able to breathe on her own without the oxygen. Only time would tell.

Good news arrived on the 30th that the vet was happy with the progress of the kitten because the worms in her lungs were dead and she was breathing much better. She was also eating and playing. The vet removed the IV and according to the x-ray, the lungs were clear.

This was the best news for the end of the year!!

The kitten was taken home by the caregiver but still needed care, return visits to the vets, and lots of love.

By the 4th of January, the caregiver had reported that the kitten had gained weight and her life was saved.

What an achievement! What a success! What Love and Kindness!

On behalf of all the CumbreCat Team and the Community of Cat Loves at large, we pay a special tribute to the Caregiver of CumbreCat in Kalmias.

THANK YOU. YOU ARE A VERY SPECIAL PERSON FULL OF LOVE AND KINDNESS.

MORE GOOD NEWS!!

On Tuesday, December 21, 2021, two CumbreCats kittens were adopted by a local resident. She has promised to love and care for these sweethearts and offer them a good home with lots of treats and hugs.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR KINDNESS

REPORTING A LANDMARK OF 200 CATS CONTROLLED

On Monday, January 3, 2022, two trappers were in the Kalmias zone looking for older kittens to trap and neuter.

Head trapper Reports:

"Months ago, during one of my walks, I saw to very beautiful new kitten in the MonteCala zoen but at this time they were too young for neutering. However, now it was time for them to be on my ToDo List. Unfortunately, I never saw them again. Luckily, last week, a resident sent me a pic of them and their new location.

I asked another trapper for help and we started our first trapping session of 2022 at 8:15.

The plan was to trap between 2 roads so that we had the living place between the roads. Each was equipped with one automatic trap, a normal trap, and transmitter boxes. We both prepared our traps with tasty food pieces.

It wasn´t long until one of the entended hungry kittens entered a trap and was caught. Immediately we transferred this cat to the carrier box so that the trap was free again.

Meanwhile, another kitten was in and out of the other trap as it was being disturbed by people making noises and coming around asking questions.

Finally, after 30 minutes of fussing about it, the second twin was in the cage. We felt very lucky to have managed this task.

The CumbreCats were taken to Veronica the vets and I picked up at 13:30. The twins were 2 females so they needed to spend the night in a warm room. They were released at 9:30 the next morning. The caregiver of these two was very happy to see them again. He opened the door to make them free and they shot out like arrows."

THESE TWO MAKE 200 TRAP, NEUTER & RELEASE CATS IN THE CAMPAIGN!!

FINAL NOTE FROM THE TRAPPING TEAM

"If you see us out trapping, we really want to beg you, please stay far away and wait until we have trapped. Often is so difficult to lure the cats into the trap and when they are disturbed and rushed away we need such a long time and new trust to get them inside again."
