DECEMBER 23, 21 - TRAPPING REPORT

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!

On Sunday, December 12, 2021, in Pueblo de la Luz a white and ginger male by the name of Chico II was finally trapped. This CumbreCat has been leading a charmed life with his caregiver but the time had come for his baby-makers to go!

The caregiver was able to trap the big boy easily because of their trusting relationship. The caregiver continued with the process of getting the cat to our community vet in a transport box. She later picked him up and let him relax and recover in her warm house. Towards the evening the CumbreCat was let return to his area and friends.

CumbreCats Campaign team is very grateful to this loving cat caregiver and her husband as they have taken on the small colony to feed and watch over in a friendly and humane way. It is people like this that make the world and especially our community a better place to live. 💘

On Thursday, December 16, 2021, our head trapper was out in the Kalmias zone with the aim of trapping the remaining two kittens left in that small colony.

She reports:
"Last Friday, I trapped two of the kittens of a small colony and they were trapped very quickly. On Monday, when I was out, the 3rd kitten did not dare a second view around the corner and disappeared. The 4th kitten was not seen.

They were not given food the evening before nor in the morning with the hopes that trapping them would be easier. However, they both decided to starve rather than enter the trap for food.

It was decided that their caregiver, who was also very worried about new pregnancies, offer to help. The idea now was to get the CumbreCat kittens accustomed to eating in the trap. It took 2 and a half days until the cats were liking their new feeding place. Sylvia finally was able to trap them without any hassel.

Fortunately, the caregiver had the time to complete all of the other steps too. The young lady CumbreCat stayed overnight in the caregiver's warm room and shouted the next morning, with a forceful voice, to be released back to her family.

On Thursday, December 16, 2021, the newest trapper on the team was over in Kalmias helping a CumbreCats caregiver.

In the caregiver's garden, a second CumbreCat family had moved during the summertime. The mummy was already done and now the kittens were old enough for neutering.

According to the trapper, "We all thought that we would be successful to trap one white boy and one white female. The caregiver could grab the boy but before she could put him into the transport box, he made a big jump back over her arm and ran away. For the very shy female, the trap was set up. Because the caregiver knows about the trapping process, a very hungry female entered the trap very quickly and the trapper could press the CLOSED button. For this shy female, the remote-controlled trap was perfect."

The trapper transferred the female cat into the carrier box. Then she tried to lure the male with some luxury buffet. But no way. So,  we decided that the caregiver should put the food in the normal transport box the next morning and try to catch him this way.

The trapper dropped off the female to Veronica the village vet and then brought her back to the caregivers' home where the cat could recover.

BIG KINDNESS

We would thank this caregiver for taking such great medical care of her CumbreCats. There is another kitten who is very ill. Veronica asked her to take the kitten to the clinic in Benissa for a very complex exam and analysis. The caregiver paid for all the processes involved without hesitation. This CumbreCat kitten is very lucky to have such a wonderful person watching over him. We await further updates on this kitten's recovery.

On Friday, December 17, 2021, as planned, the Kalmias caregiver put some yummy food into a transport box and after a few seconds, the male kitten jumped in and was caught. The trapping team took him down to Veronica and picked him up again after his surgery. He was released in the afternoon.

On Monday, December 20, 2021, in the other garden at Kalmias, the caregiver there was able to trap the 4th and last kitten in the colony. This white tabby girl was taken down to the vets and picked up to recover at her caregiver's home. She was released the following morning.

So, with the cooperation of caregivers, this CumbreCats colony is all neutered. Fantastic People create Fantastic Results!!

On Tuesday, December 21, 2021, a couple of returning residents in the Palmeras zone asked for help from the trapping team. They wanted to trap white female CumbreCat that they knew and loved. A transport box was delivered along with some advice and instructions. The next day the residents were able to easily catch their CumbreCat and take her down to the vet. The cat was picked up and she recovered in the home of these lovely residents. She was released the next day.

Once again, we are so proud of our community of residents who are taking up the CumbreCats Campaign and trying to solve the situation themselves. So much better than just complaining and doing nothing... as they say, action speaks louder than words!!
