The Event  The Fundraising Team from the CumbreCats Control Campaign, a  Private Citizens Initiative established in June 2020 to trap-neuter and return the wild and abandoned cats from the community, have joined forces with its community artists and crafters to bring together a very unique and exciting interactive fundraising event.  On Saturday September 25th, from 10 -  13:00, the Sports Area between the Padel and Tennis courts, will be the location where a variety of interactive creative events will be hosted, as well as a Tombola-style raffle, to aid the efforts and improve the lives of the CumbreCats. Meet & Greet Ariane Viselé , a resident of Cumbre del Sol and a creative ceramics soul. She will be giving a demonstration at our events and supporting the CumbreCats with sales of her creations. CELEBRATING THE ARTS & CRAFTS with EXHIBITIONS & WORKSHOPS - STARTING EARLY!!   When the CumbreCats fundraising team decided to host an open air Arts & Crafts event as a Community Fundraiser, we didn't know that the vibe would catch on so quickly!! But, here you have proof that our local artists are getting out ahead of the monthly events aimed at the last Saturday Mornings of the Month, starting in September 2021 at the Tennis Area and other spots to be announced.  Local Cumbre del Sol artist and crafter - Ariane, has been inspired by a grand Baroque masterpiece Las Meninas (The Maids) painted in 1656 by Diego Velázquez, the leading artist of the Spanish Golden Age. She has chosen to craft fantastic silhouettes of the Princess Margarita from clay and fire them in a spender of exotic glazes.  Cumbre neighbour Margaret fell in love with these creations and offered to buy one but Ariane wanted the money, 40 euros, to be forwarded to CumbreCats.  This is ki...

 FIT-STEPPERS DO IT WITH LOVE! Today, Tina, Marianne and myself met with the FitSteps Ladies who have a generous Benitachell-based leader by the name of Pam Small. Many folks in the community know of this lovely lady who fund raises for many causes while keeping in shape with lively dance moves disguised as exercise.  Pam gifted our group with a donation of 200 euros that will go towards our CumbreCats campaign. This money will be given to Veronica our village vet who will put it toward neutering the CumbreCats in the fall season.  I gave a little talk to the FitSteps Ladies about CumbreCats origin story and why we are on our own with this project. They all seem to understand the challenges that we endure and we do it at our pleasure for the well being of our local wild cats. Then, some of the ladies bought our Fundraiser Community Cookbooks.  BIG THANK YOU TO SOME LOVELY LADIES...   Tina, Trudi and myself met with some lovely ladies who took some time out of their holidays to meet with us and have a coffee and purchase cookbooks in order to aid our fundraising efforts for the care of our cats on Cumbre del Sol. They were all wonderful and looking forward their future when they will move to Cumbre full time to live and become part of our community. We will welcome them like family when that time comes. I also want to Thank some neighbours who donated some money last month over PayPal. The funds were going to aid another cause but it was in the end routed to our cats. So, thank you to those folks who were mostly anonymous.  We will be hosting Arts & Crafts Fundraiser Events the Last Saturday of every month - starting in September till end of 2021. ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY SUMMARY IT HAS BEEN A PRODUCTIVE YEAR. Together with the fantastic support and help from our community cat lovers, the CumbreCats Trapping Team has achieved greatness.  Here are our numbers - Cats Trapped, Neutered & Returned Begonias: 18 Encimas: 10 Girasoles: 21 Magnolias: 14 Monte Cala: 28 Olivos: 32 Pueblos: 15 Kalmias: 1 Lirios: 6 TOTAL - 145 CATS Regrettably, we had to put 6 cats to sleep because of sever injuries. We did not want them to suffer. Joyfully, we had a least 10 kittens adopted. So life continues.  In every area of Cumbre del Sol, we have found cat loving folks who help to take care of the cats and this confirms an exemplary humanitarian way of life. In some areas, micro-communities were founded and as a group effort privately pay for medical treatments and other helpful solutions.     OVERWHELMED AND GRATEFUL TO ROUND-UP 638,91 EUROS!! Once again, we are amazed at the compassion of many of our community Cumbre del Sol residents who have contributed to our CumbreCats Campaign and donated funds to keep the programme functioning.  Together with money generated by the sales of our CumbreCats CookBook, Gift / Occasion Cards made by our local artist, PayPal Donations, Gift Certificates and Collection Can from Pepe la Sal - the total came to 638,91 EUROS!! Since we do not receive money from any governmental structures, we are proud to know that we don't their money and that we can operate as a privately funded community enterprise. From past experience, we learned that just by volunteering for our local vet, the lovely and talented Veronica, it was a better way to get things done more quickly and efficiently.  FRIENDLY FOLKS HELPING FELINE FERALS This report finds our friendly trappers in the Encinas zone of Cumbre del Sol on Friday, May 7, 2021. What a surprise to find out that we have a new trapping team named Karrie and Trevor Lott. Karrie filed this report: "Tina loaned us one of the metal cat traps. We didn’t feed our regular feral visitors the night before, even though I found this very hard not to. However, we were very lucky in the morning.  We were able to trap BIG EARS, a name that we had given to this feral cat. Big Ears went straight away for the tuna. trapped big ears (as we named him) straight away with the tuna. We actually thought he was a ‘she’!  We drove straight to the vets by 10:00. We were surprised when informed by the vet that Big Ears was a male because we had thought it to be a female!! 😄 By 13:00, the vet was ready for us to pick up Big Ears. He was quite happy in his cage. At 19:00 we left him food next to the cage but wasn’t in a rush to escape. Ev...
