25TH SEPTEMBER, 2021, ARTS & CRAFTS INTERACTIVE EVENT & FUNDRAISER


The Event 

The Fundraising Team from the CumbreCats Control Campaign, a  Private Citizens Initiative established in June 2020 to trap-neuter and return the wild and abandoned cats from the community, have joined forces with its community artists and crafters to bring together a very unique and exciting interactive fundraising event. 

On Saturday September 25th, from 10 -  13:00, the Sports Area between the Padel and Tennis courts, will be the location where a variety of interactive creative events will be hosted, as well as a Tombola-style raffle, to aid the efforts and improve the lives of the CumbreCats.

Meet & Greet

Ariane Viselé, a resident of Cumbre del Sol and a creative ceramics soul. She will be giving a demonstration at our events and supporting the CumbreCats with sales of her creations. Come and See her in action. 

Another great Cumbre del Sol artist - Mathias Schickhoff, is joining our event and campaign. He will present his latest interactive children's book. Together with his wife Tina, they have conceived a tale whereby a cat and a dog experience an exciting adventure but your children must participate with the book in order to solve the story. These books are available in three languages. 

This Cumbre couple are not only committed to the CumbreCats but they have founded an association called www.HEART4ELEPHANTS.com that is dedicated to the survival of the endangered elephants in Asia.



Mathias has crafted some super fun and fabulous handmade cards for every occasion. Whether general or special congratulations, saying thank you, wishing all the best, simply saying hello, sending a loving message to your nearest and dearest, your family, friends and acquaintances - with these individual, lovable one-of-a-kind cards you are giving double the pleasure, because you are helping our cats. Mathias Schickhoff is donating 100% of proceeds to the CumbreCats.


Relax and Learn About Oil Painting with Benitachell village artist - Frances Jones. She will be hosting an interactive painting circle for beginners. So, bring out your paints, easel and brushes and get a super great free personal session with a fabulous lady. She is also donating one of her masterpieces to the raffle fundraiser.  

Enjoy and Learn About our area with Spanish Arts Historian, Author & Educator -  Karla Darocas. This Cumbre del Sol resident will be hosting a Book Reading Circle. She will be reading tales from her educational book on Javea. These are wonderful, insightful stories that local Valencian people know but English language people may not.  She will answer art and historical questions of the area and Spain in general for both art lovers and history buffs. Finally, we are very pleased and Excited to announce a Special Guest - Robert Sapsford, will be live and in person at our Cumbre Community Arts and Crafts interactive event. He will be painting a CumbreCat on spot and he will also going to donate a portrait of a CumbreCat, with a neutered-notch out of its ear, for the fundraiser raffle. He's also going to have his cat print originals for cat lovers as gifts. BRING A PHOTO and Robert will paint a portrait of your pet for a fee of which he will donate partly back to the CumbreCats. 


FUNDRAISER RAFFLE - Thank you to all the Private Citizens and Local Businesses that have donated to our Raffle. Please remember to attach your business cards with tape to the prize in order to let the winners know who was supporting the event.

"Successful Rescue of a Young Kitten in Magnolias Zone" Trapper Report "At the end of September, a couple from the Magnolias zone, who love CumbreCats, asked for help in trapping a young kitten that had recently appeared. Since there were many cats in the area, I used a remote-controlled trap. The couple had not fed the cats the evening before or on the morning of the trapping, so we had a lot of hungry cats around. With the help of the cat feeder, who lured the already-neutered cats to another location with food, the inexperienced young kitten became so captivated by the tasty pieces inside the trap that he entered quickly. I was able to press the CLOSE button on the trap. However, his mother was smarter. From the start, she made a wide circle around the trap and showed no intention of being caught, so she remains on the to-do list. The cat feeders took the kitten to Veronica, the vet, which was a great help as they handled all the driving. They also refused a CumbreCat...

JULY 24, 2024 🐾 TRAPPING & RAINBOW REPORTS 🐾

MONTE CALA HAS A NEW FAMILY  TRAPPER REPORT One of our part-time cat feeders in Monte Cala was informed by her neighbours about a new mother cat and her kittens. She went out, examined them all, and reported back to me. Together, we quickly devised a trapping plan. First, I focused on a mother cat with a very beautiful kitten that looked like a Siamese. As usual, the mother was black, like so many cats in that area.  Since the female cat was used to the feeder, who had fed her very little the evening before, the mother cat was quite hungry the next morning and already waiting when we prepared the trap. We used a remote-controlled trap because a few already neutered cats were hanging around. The feeder lured the others away with food, leaving the mother cat to enter the trap quickly. She was successfully trapped. Since we were already in this area, we decided to continue trapping. We set up both traps, the normal one and the remote-controlled trap, and then the waiting started....

LETTER FROM BEAR - A Recipent of the CumbreCats Elder Cat Programme

Good morning, everyone. My name is Bear, and I live on Cumbre del Sol, a lovely mountain community in the province of Alicante on the Costa Blanca. My passport says my name is Osito, which I prefer because it sounds more regal, of course. However, Mom insists on calling me Bear or, even worse, Beary-Bear. But she loves me so much that I'm willing to live with the little names she comes up with. Don’t tell her, but I am very fond of her too for a number of reasons. If she knew, I would probably never hear the end of it. My story began about eight years ago, more or less. The vet wasn’t quite sure. I don’t consider myself a real senior, although I am starting to feel the weather changes and the cold winters in Spain in my bones. Now, if you are a house cat, this is less of a problem because you have your heated mansion, your lovely warm basket, or your human’s bed to keep you warm.
