TRAPPING REPORT - MAY 15, 2021
FRIENDLY FOLKS HELPING FELINE FERALS
Karrie filed this report:
"Tina loaned us one of the metal cat traps. We didn’t feed our regular feral visitors the night before, even though I found this very hard not to. However, we were very lucky in the morning. We were able to trap BIG EARS, a name that we had given to this feral cat. Big Ears went straight away for the tuna. trapped big ears (as we named him) straight away with the tuna. We actually thought he was a ‘she’!
We drove straight to the vets by 10:00. We were surprised when informed by the vet that Big Ears was a male because we had thought it to be a female!! π By 13:00, the vet was ready for us to pick up Big Ears. He was quite happy in his cage. At 19:00 we left him food next to the cage but wasn’t in a rush to escape. Eventually, he ambled out and ate the food that I had left. I think we had beginners luck catching him so easily."
On Monday, May 10, 2021 the same team trappers, Karrie and Trevor Lott, tried their luck again in the Encinas zone.Karrie filed this report:
"This morning, despite the rain, we managed to catch BLACK TAIL, as we called him. He fights with the other cats so it was good to catch him. We did not think we would be able to catch him as he doesn’t come to our house so often.
We took Black Tail to the vets by 10:00. This time we managed to have his correct sex π€£ and he definitely was a ‘he’π. We collected him again at 13:00 and put him in a quiet room until 19:00 and then released him. He shot out of the cage and down into the barranca or valley.
100% FANTASTIC FOLKS!!
Also on Monday, May 10, 2021, head trapper Tina was together with Emma, a community CumbreCat Lover who cares and feeds for her feral cats Pueblo de la Paz.
Tina filed this report:
"This Monday morning the weather was not optimal. There was a very fine drizzling rain. I wanted to trap in a private garden where the cats were being fed and cared for by Emma – a great cat lover.
I informed her not to
feed them in the evening nor in the morning so that when I arrived at 8:00 they would be waiting for their food. However, when they saw me, they all disappeared.
Very quickly, I prepared the trap with the usual tasty treats and in this case
some biscuits. I like to put 2 pieces at the entrance of the trap and then further down to the middle of the trap another 2 pieces. Plus, I add a little handful at the end of the trap.
In the meantime, Emma kept busy by luring the other fixed cats away from the trap by shaking a box of biscuits and
calling out her pet names for them. Because Emma is their primary caregiver, they know her voice and they attracted to her.
I could hide myself in the kitchen beside an open window. This was very good place
to watch the trap and to press the CLOSE Button on the remote controlled trap. Very soon a
beautiful female named Bellie appeared and ate the first 2 pieces inside the trap. She was hungry and went more inside and as soon as she was completely inside, I pressed CLOSE and the trap door came down. It was 8:08 am.
Quickly Emma covered the trap with the blanket. We transferred her to a carrier box so that they trap was free again to use.
I took both cats to our local vet and campaign partner - Veronica.
Emma picked them both up at about 14:00 and let them recover in a quite room until evening, when she let them free."
THANK YOU TO EMMA and her husband, on behalf of CumbreCats for their help and support.
They donated 100€ to the campaign. This was a grand and generous contribution!!
GOOD NEWS * Emma has also joined the trapping team. We are very happy ππ

FINALLY, We say Goodbye to Sweetie, a feral friend
|from Pueblo de la Paz.
Sweetie was very ill with nose cancer and small group of 5 people who are CumbreCats supporters were all very concerned and wanted to pay for a treatment from the vet. So , Denise, who lives in Pueblo de la Paz, a great cat lover, borrowed one of our traps. She tried for 2 weeks to trap the cat until she was successful.
Sadly, nothing could be done for Sweetie and Veronica our Vet had to put the cat to sleep. π
