CumbreCats TNR and Rescue

  Trapper Tina was out at 8:00 on Monday, February 15, 2021 in the Begonias zone. She prepared a trap with newspaper and tasty wet fishy food. Her goal was to trap 2 males but to her disappointment, there were no cats around. It could be due to the fresh 9 degree weather that morning? She rattled the biscuit bag and spread little tasty sardine pieces down on the ground with the hopes to lure the cats. Finally at 8:30,  one of the males came along. He was hungry so he did not hesitate to enter the trap and quickly the door snapped shut. He was trapped. One down, one to go!   Tina had to wait another hour until the second sexy male finally appeared. He was black and white and had many scratches from fighting. He was also very clever and made a big circle round the trap and decided to walk up and down the street waiting for the regular cat feeder. The trapping team of Tina and Andrea headed out on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 . Tina started out in Begonias at 8:00 in the black cat zone. At the beginning there was only one cat in the street. She set up a trap. She turned her back for one minute and she heard the trap of off and she turned around to see a cat already in the trap. Sadly, this cat had an ear tip, so out he went. The sound of the trap shutting was a clue to other cats that its not a good time to come around and to be careful. In the meantime, Tina had to lure two young kittens away from the trap with food. After about 35 minutes, a strong boy, who Tina knew and played games with her last week, came over to the trap. Tina had covered the trigger with newspaper and this worked well because the big tom cat stepped on the trigger and was trapped. which washed himself last week in the trap. Since our fundraiser events came crashing to a stop because of the Covid Crisis being so close to home, we have had to rely on other forms of funding. So we want to send out a big THANK YOU * GRACIAS* to our Cumbre Pepe La Sal for putting our donation can into their shop and collecting for us. This can, with your loose change, has raised enough to neuter a cat already. Good work! The cats who need it most will have it in their food or eat is as a tasty biscuit treat.

  As we round up the first month of 2021, Monday, January 25 found our trapper Tina up early and heading over to the Begonias zone.  According to Tina, "Even though Cumbre Cats has already had 6 or more cats from this zone neutered, there are still at least another 6-8 cats that need to be trapped" She reported on this day of trapping by stating, "The first black macho appeared very quickly and was interested in the tasty food in the trap but obviously he was very trap-experienced because he ate all the food without ever touching the trigger. He was very satisfied." Tina saw another few cats appear so she decied to wait around from far away to see what would happen. She concluded that the cats were not hungry, even though they had not been fed since the morning before.   BUSY WEEK for our CC Trapping Team.  It started fresh on Monday, January 18, 2021 with Tina up and out by 8:00 in the Begonias zone. She prepared her first trap and watched at a black cat came to the cage, walked around it a few times, ate a few bites then left because an older eartipped macho came by. So Tina had to lure this eartipper away to another place far from the trap and feed him. The other black male came back to the trap and luckily triggered the trap door to shut. Tina quickly covered him with a blanket and put him into her car. Tina prepared a second trap with a very delicious fish soup for cats put it near to the next targeted cat. Again, Tina had get the older eartipper away from the trap. Only a few minutes later the trap was triggered and the door closed. Read her Report Below...   On Wednesday, January 13, 2021 , Andrea and Robert. Report by Andrea A large macho had been active in our area of Olivos . He had many scars on his ears and had been a real fighter. But he was very easy to catch as he was starving and went into the trap straight away. It was hard to see if his ear had already been tipped after neutering, but after investigating his rear end there was no doubt that he was an entire male. And he was extremely aggressive! We took him to Veronica the vet at 11:00 and collected him 15:00. Veronica's assistant Anouk told us not to release him before 19:00, or better still, he should be allowed to stay inside overnight as it was so cold.
