TRAPPING & DEATH REPORT - APRIL 24, 2021

Image
The trapping week started on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 with Tina up early with her traps out at the Monte Cala zone.  Two days in advance, she had already arranged with the Feeders to not feed the cats on that morning nor the night before. It was good to have the cats really hungry in order for the trapping session to go well. TINA REPORTS: "I arrived at Monte Cala at 8:10 and a few cats were hungry and waiting for food. I prepared our remote control trap and focused on a black fluffy female cat but a huge male cat appeared. There were a bunch of already neutered cats coming around so I had to lure them away from the trap, however the big macho ended up chasing the all away with wild hisses.  I quickly prepared a second trap with wet food and it only took 5 minutes for the male to enter the trap and the gate to shut. Meanwhile the fluffy female was dancing around the other trap. She ate a piece then left the trap and hid in the bushes. She wanted to see what would happen next...

AGAIN, GOOD & BAD NEWS!! There was only one day of trapping this week and it was on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. Tina and Florence started their morning at different points around Cumbre at 8:00.  TINA REPORTS: The weather was fine with no wind nor rain. The cat feeders were informed a few days ago which day would be trapping day and hence not to feed their cats. Florence set up her trap in the storage area at the tennis bar owned by cat lover MariPaz. Unfortunately, there was still a big bowl of dry food left out so no cats were interested in the food in the traps. Their tummies were full. Florence was not happy and wrapped up her trapping event early. At the next feeding/trapping point in Encimas, Florence and the cats were already waiting for me and for food. Manfred, my cat feeder friend and I work together perfectly. Because of this good cooperation with Manfred, the cats were not fed and so they were hungry. It does not take long until they come around the traps. Meanwhile...

TRAPPING REPORT - APRIL 9, 2021

GOOD NEWS & SAD NEWS This week started on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 with Tina the trapper having a great start to our mission after the tourist packed Easter Holidays. A Big Congratulation to Tina's newest trainee, Luc who is 4 years of age. Tina likes to start them young. Humanity is good to learn at any age!  TINA REPORTS:  At 9:00, I was at my trapping appointment with Ieva and her 4 years old son Luc.   When I arrived, the first black/white female cat was already waiting for food. Ieva and I realized that we must hurry up to finalize the preparation of the trap with food. Ieva brought the food that the cats normally eat and her son Luc put the little food pieces into the trap. Very quickly I set up the first trap in the garden and Luc watched from the kitchen windows and reported to us what is going on.  It took 4 minutes then the cat appeared, ate the first piece, left, returned and tried to get the food from outside. Quietly, we opened the door so that Ieva ...

THE LUCKY 7 -  The Push is On to get the trapping done before the tourists arrive, which as we know from last year, upsets the cats and they stay at home.  The trapping started week with the Trapping team of Andrea and Robert who went out on Wednesday,  March 24, 2021 . Andrea reports, "Another early start and our first stop was at Pepe La Sal. Just two cats in sight, and both already fixed. So, after a half of an hour, we moved to Girasoles. A gang of hungry cats were waiting for us, but we recognised  all but one as being already trapped and fixed. We tried to distract them with food a little way from the trap, and they all seemed to be happy and enjoying the sunshine. A few minutes later, a pretty female, which we have been trying to trap for weeks, turned up. Within minutes she entered the trap. Now, her friends were all spooked so we moved onto meet Tina who was busy with the Community Cat feeder - Manfred. Just as we arrived, a handsome macho went into her trap...

A BIG THANK YOU to all who helped us get over this next hump! We rounded up funds from the sales of our CumbreCats Community CookBooks, the sales from the Handmade Cards being sold at Veronica the village Vets, and from the loving folks who donated on PayPal after our Community emailer. Plus some came in through the sale of our Gift Certificates.  All in all - 481,50 was delivered to Veronica and just in time because the push is on to get as many cats trapped and neutered before the tourists get here. As we discovered last year, the combination of traffic and tourist causing chaos, the cats stay hidden at home.    The CumbreCats Community Cookbook is AVAILABLE AT Cumbre Community Coffee Mornings and at the local veterinarian in Benitachell Centro Veterinario Verónica Català Pascual Carrer Molí, 8, 03726 El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, Alicante Closes 3:30PM Phone: 658 254 379  Contact: Veronica This Cookbook is a Fundraiser Item to Help Support & Fund the ...
