TRAPPING & DEATH REPORT - APRIL 24, 2021

The trapping week started on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 with Tina up early with her traps out at the Monte Cala zone.

Two days in advance, she had already arranged with the Feeders to not feed the cats on that morning nor the night before. It was good to have the cats really hungry in order for the trapping session to go well.

TINA REPORTS:

"I arrived at Monte Cala at 8:10 and a few cats were hungry and waiting for food. I prepared our remote control trap and focused on a black fluffy female cat but a huge male cat appeared. There were a bunch of already neutered cats coming around so I had to lure them away from the trap, however the big macho ended up chasing the all away with wild hisses.

I quickly prepared a second trap with wet food and it only took 5 minutes for the male to enter the trap and the gate to shut.

Meanwhile the fluffy female was dancing around the other trap. She ate a piece then left the trap and hid in the bushes. She wanted to see what would happen next.

So, I refilled the trap with little pieces. She was cleaver and tried to get the food with her paw from the outside. However, I was smarter and put food directly in the middle and down to the end, of the cage. Now she was forced to enter. I could finally press the Close button on the remote trap.

I dropped off the two cats to Veronica our vet around 10:00. I was able to pick them up again in the early afternoon. They recovered in my house and I released them at 19:00. They were both very happy to be back again the two flew like arrows out of the traps. "

Thursday, April 22, 2021 was the next trapping day and Tina found herself in the Magnolias zone with her traps. This was an easier trapping session for Tina because she was only a minute from her front door.

TINA REPORTS:

"Over the past week, I had been watching this handsome huge macho since coming later in the evening for food. So,  I prepared a trap in my garden. He must have been very hungry because he went into the trap quickly.

I had just opened the window to look out to see what had happened when I saw that he was 100% in the trap and I closed the gate.

I had to transfer him inton a more comfortable cage for the the night, as he had to stay with me until I could take him to the vet in the morning, which I did. Veronica the vet was was really impressed with  this huge boy.

At 12:30, I picked him up for recovery in my home and at 18:00 I released him back into my garden.

INAUGURAL CumbreCat, that Launched the Campaign, Killed by Careless Driver

On Wednesday at 8:25 in Calle Murillo in Monte Cala a driver in a car took the life of a CumbreCat. This was not just any CumbreCat but the first cat to be taken to Veronica, which sparked the friendship and neutering campaign and care for the feral cat population on Cumbre del Sol. The grey kitten, which was found by local resident Rebecca, had inflamed eyes. The kitten was treated by Veronica the vet.

It was this CumbreCat that sparked the discussion about the state of affairs with the cat colonies on Cumbre and how they needed to be controlled with care and compassion.

This CumbreCat was called OSITO and all it took was a negligent person to end his life. The driver just ran him over and didn't stop.

Luckily, Tina our head trapper was close by and turned around to see the injured cat and quickly rushed to its aid and put it into a carrier box. She drove the cat to Veronica but it died on route.

Tina figured that the cat was only one year old.

CONCLUSION: It is a tragic situation that there are people who are mindless and heartless and would just run over a CumbreCat in our community. We ask that everyone please be KIND and keep your EYES OPEN for accidents and negligent drivers. THANK YOU
