A PLAN COMES TOGETHER On Sunday, April 24, 2022, our head trapper was together with some  resident caregivers in the Monte Cala zone to arrange a trapping session. TRAPPER REPORT: "Finally, I was able to get together with the Monte Cala caregivers and draft a strategy to catch the ginger CumbreCat in their group that needed his baby makers nipped. We had a rough time with him before because the caregiver thought that she could just grab her handsome ginger boy and put him into the carrier box, but he proved to be more feral than she thought. He reached out and struck her hand, so she was not able to put him in the transport box. She had to drop him and he escaped. Our new plan was to get him used to eating in the non-activated trap, but no chance. He always ate beside the trap. But after a few days, the caregivers finally outsmarted the ginger!!!  They activated the trap and when the ginger was eating, the caregiver grasped him quickly and pushed him into the trap. TRAPPING IS A TEAM EFFORT On April 19, 2022, our head trapper was out in the Girasoles zone behind Pepe La Sal. In this zone, we have a fantastic gentleman who has been feeding and caring for the CumbreCats for many, many years. He is the salt-of-the-earth kind and will be rewarded a thousand times over for being a spectacular human with a grand heart. TRAPPER REPORT: “I made an appointment with our CumbreCat man to co-ordinate a trapping session. We make a good team. He was instructed not to feed the cats the previous evening so that I could trap in the morning. We started at  8:00. I set up 2 traps for the goal to trap a female that our Feederman has tried to capture for many years.  We filled both traps with regular food and some tasty fish food. Then the trap dance, as we call it,   started. The CumbreCat lady danced around the trap, sniffing it, and then she danced over to the other trap and sniffed it. The CumbreCats Arts and Crafts Market Fundraiser was blessed with a  gorgeous , sunny, no wind, morning on Saturday the 16th of April 2022. Once again the supporters of our campaign showed themselves to be the most fabulous, loyal, loving people.  Some came and supported the Tombola, others supported the arts and crafts people, others just came out with plastic bags full of coins. One young lad came and donated his allowance.  After the event our community sat down to a magnificent lunch and MariPaz and her staff treated us like family.  Our total for the event came to 670 euros. THE RAIN IN SPAIN HAS FINALLY STOPPED!!  Trapping went on hold during all the historic rain. CumbreCats did not hang about in their usual zones. However, on Thursday, March 17, 2022, with a break in the rain, two of our regular caregivers were able to trap in their neighbour colonies.  From the Magnolias zone, the local caregiver trapped a handsome grey male. This fluffy boy was the last of her garden family to be neutered.  And at the other end of the urbanisation, another longtime caregiver was able to coax a tomboy, white and ginger CumbreCat with some yummy snacks into a cage.  When the weather put on a sunny face, the CumbreCats were out and on April 7, 2022, our head trapper was able to work with some residents of Monte Cala. One of our main trappers was pleased to send in this report about her 3 day efforts in the Camelias zone.  TRAPPER REPORT: "Last week, thanks to a caring neighbour in the Camelias zone, a feeding routine was established that pulled 7 CumbreCats together into the same place, at the same time. This effort made it easier for me to locate the cats for trapping. Even though the rain did put a stop to the daily trapping routine, it was just after the rain that I managed to successfully trap 3 girls. Two of the young girls were less than a year old, and one was an adult lady. I was able to get all 3 sterilized just in time due to spring mating season!  I followed all protocols from setting up the trap, to putting in the smelly food to watching them go inside.  They were delivered to our local vet at 9:00 and picked up later.
