MAY 5, 2022 - TRAPPING REPORT & KITTEN RESCUE
A PLAN COMES TOGETHER
On Sunday, April 24, 2022, our head trapper was together with some resident caregivers in the Monte Cala zone to arrange a trapping session.
TRAPPER REPORT:
"Finally, I was able to get together with the Monte Cala caregivers and draft a strategy to catch the ginger CumbreCat in their group that needed his baby makers nipped. We had a rough time with him before because the caregiver thought that she could just grab her handsome ginger boy and put him into the carrier box, but he proved to be more feral than she thought. He reached out and struck her hand, so she was not able to put him in the transport box. She had to drop him and he escaped.
Our new plan was to get him used to eating in the non-activated trap, but no chance. He always ate beside the trap. But after a few days, the caregivers finally outsmarted the ginger!!!
They activated the trap and when the ginger was eating, the caregiver grasped him quickly and pushed him into the trap. CumbreCat Ginger was so confused about it all that he touched the trigger, and he was trapped.
I dropped off this boy to Veronica, where he was operated on immediately. One hour later, I picked him up. After he recovered, I released him the same evening in his home area. He was very happy, he ran out of the box."
THE PLAN WORKS AGAIN
On Sunday, May 1, 2022 our head trapper was back in the Monte Cala zone again with the resident caregivers who now had a female to trap.
TRAPPER REPORT:
"Once again, I was with the Monte Cala caregivers. This time it was a black female CumbreCat that needed to be trapped because we all were worried that she might be pregnant. It was important to get her neutered and fast.
The caregivers utilised the same strategy as before and got the young girl accustomed to eating in the trap. Unfortunately, the weather was very bad, and it took a lot of time. Finally, she was used to eating in the non-active trap, and together we decided to trap her on Sunday evening due to the bad weather forecast.
It worked like a charm and within 5 minutes, she was trapped. It was the right decision because I could tell that she was already pregnant but in a very early stages. Because it was Sunday evening, obviously Veronica was closed, so I had to bring her to our friends at Aliaga animal clinic in Moraira. They have helped us before.
I pick her up at 3pm, and she recovered overnight until the next morning, when I released her home area.
Once again, she was reunited with her little family.
On behalf of all the CumbreCats team, I want to thank our Monte Cala caregivers who worked with extreme devotion and fantastic cooperation. Their generous donation will also go towards helping other CumbreCats in the future." ❤
POOR ABANDONED BABY
TRAPPER REPORT:
"It was Sunday 7pm and at the same time as the Monte Cala caregivers were calling me to confirm the capture of their CumbreCat, the Magnolias' caregiver was calling me asking for help about a kitten crying.
The Magnolias' caregiver had heard a kitten crying since the morning, 10am. She had watched to see if the mum had also heard its cries, and hopefully she would return. Sometimes, when mummies are moving their kittens, they have to leave one for a little while, but this was not the case.
Very carefully, the caregiver looked for the kitten, which had been hidden between a bush and some plants. When I arrived, we tried to unite the kitten with some mummies that were nearby, and we watched, but no one would adopt the poor baby.
Then it started, a heavy rain shower, so it was clear that we needed to foster this young one. We guessed that it was around 10 days old. It could only open its eyes a bit. Its voice was very strong, however, and that was a good sign.
A big thank goes to the Magnolias' caregiver, who at once was ready to foster this little baby. Due to missing cat milk, it got lactose-free/low fat milk mixed with double water against dehydration. It drank and peed very soon.
Next morning, I bought baby kitten milk, which the caregiver wished to pay for.
We are so lucky and happy to have such cat loving people here on the Cumbre." ❤
