TRAPPING REPORT - OCTOBER 23, 2020

The week began on Monday, October 19, 2020 as Tina and Jo decided to set up their traps in the Pueblo de a Paz zone only to find that most of the cats had eartips meaning that they had already been neutered. So, off they went over to the Monte Cala zone of Cumbre del Sol, where they had success before. Tina was eager to trap a cat that she had seen there before. This cat was always very suspicious and tiptoed around the cage. But, Tina was determined and placed all of her focus on this cat.  The trap was filled with smelly fish food and the female cat could not resist.  Tina and Jo worked as a team to try and lure another cat into another trap but due to the fact that so many cats in the area have now been neutered, it was hard to separate the few that are not.  This is good and bad news!! Good that the teams are making headway with the campaign and bad because it's harder to catch the others. Oh well... such is life! 😁   At 10:40,  Jo took the trapped ...

A BUSY WEEK OF TRAPPING ** On Tuesday, October 13, 2020 , Trapper Tina was over at the tennis bar called Como en Casa, where we do our fundraisers, to deal with a mother cat. Tina arrived at 9:30 with a trap and loaded it up. The mother cat was extremely suspicious of Tina and the trap. She proved to be a tricky opponent as the cat went in and out and around the trap and then would disappear and then return. Tina was surprised that that he mother was not interested in wet cat food so she tried a few biscuits. Finally, Tina was forced to bring out the tuna! This last treat sealed the deal and the mother cat could not resist. Tina had to hid herself, so that the mother would go into the trap. Finally, the trigger was snapped and the door came down. After an hour, at 10:40 Tina took the mother cat to the vet. At 14:30, she picked her up again and took her home for a relaxing afternoon. Then at 19:00, Tina released her back to her home behind the tennis bar. **On Wednesday, October 14, 202...

A GARDEN PARTY On Tuesday, October 6, 2020 the trapping team of Tina  and Susana set up 2 traps in Susana's garden in Magnolias. This was a training session for Susana, so she watched very closely as Tina put the food in the traps. Susana explained to Tina that there was entire family that needed to be neutered, so Tina spent some time explaining all of the important points involved in trapping. Susana is a cat lover and she feeds many feral cats and she also has many of her own so it is a big cat party in her garden. And, because Susana and Tina live close together, Tina's prised Ginger is often dipping his curious nose into the cat scene at Susana's.  was not easy because of this cat lover-Lady is feeding many feral cats and many cats of her own too. Once the traps were setup, many cats showed an interest in the smell of the yummy food in the traps. The first cat into the trap was a young pretty white / tabby.  Then, 12 minutes later as big boy snapped another trap. The...

IT'S A TRIO On Monday, October 5, 2020, team trapper Jo and Tina were up and out with their traps by 8:15 in the Pueblo de la Paz zone.  It was a slow starter because the cats were all in bed still. Finally, after 20 minutes, a few started to sniff around but they had ear tips already. A big black macho with monster baby makers came to see what was happening, but his was a cool cat and knew the game and strutted away. Jo and Tina decided to looking for him and discovered a clowder of cats having a meeting.  At once they set up the first trap. They loaded it up with biscuits, wet food and fish taste and then moved away. There was a very hungry white tabby who ran right into the trap and triggered the door. It was a female. The trappers quickly grabbed another trap and loaded it with the same treats.  A Bengal male came into the trap and ate all the snacks without triggering the door. The team restocked the food supply in the trap. The Bengal came back with a friend....

REMINDER  If you are not at Cumbre del Sol during our Fundraiser Fridays, you can still Help with a PAYPAL DONATION -  Just CLICK BUTTON.   TRAPPING REPORT On Wednesday, September 30, 2020, the trapping team of Jenny, Tina and Jacky set their sights on the zone of Monte Cala.  They started at 8:15 and set up three traps in different places along Calle Murillo.  The cats on this street are now getting use to the trappers and their tricks, so catching a cat is not so easy anymore. It became a game of IN & OUT as one cat after another indulged on the food in the trap but then skirted the area around the trigger. Then, they would wait for the trappers to load up the trap with fresh snacks like tuna, sardines, wet food and biscuits.  Finally, around 10:00 a big strong boy swaggered into the scene. He observed the action and was unsure of how this game was played. Tina immediately moved the trap in his direction, and as an extra invitation, tossed another sar...
