MULTILINGUAL APPROACH Living on Cumbre del Sol requires a multilingual approach to life. Although we should all know Spanish as a second language by now, it is good that so many of our trappers and feeders can work together in a common language for the benefit of our CumbreCats. TRAPPER REPORT " On Monday evening I was out in the Monte Cala area helping to translate between a backup cat feeder and a regular cat feeder, because there was another macho cat that needed to be caught. Thank goodness this macho CumbreCat turned up at his regular feeding time. I quickly prepared the trap with fish food, but the delicious smell attracted many other cats. Our CumbreCat's Spanish substitute feeder tried to keep the others busy eating for a while. My targeted CumbreCat only ate a piece at the entrance of the trap and disappeared. After a while, a black cat went in, to the end, and I closed the trap. There were at least 5 black cats in this area and Gosh, unfortunately, it was the wro...

SOME MORNINGS ARE WONDERFUL! Long-time resident, and caretaker of CumbreCats, tells her story about trapping in her zone on Cumbre del Sol. Trapper Report "With so many CumbreCats coming for breakfast every morning, it can be a challenge to catch the right cat for a vet visit. I now use a new trick by regularly putting breakfast in the 'trap' cage and travel baskets. This way I have found that the cats (except the veterans of course!) are not afraid or less afraid to go in. I also sit nearby and talk or sing, so they know my voice. After a few mornings, I install the trap so that it closes when a cat runs to the back, or I reach out with a stick or my arm to close the transport baskets when I see a non-neutered cat go in sideways. And yes... this week a beautiful ginger and white young male was caught in the trap. He is now called Chico 5 (all the male ginger CumbreCats I trap are called Chico). I took him to Veronica and Anouk, our vets in the village. A few hours later, ...

MARCH 5, 2023 - TRAPPING REPORT

Over the past week, the cold has kept the CumbreCats hidden except to come out to feed, hence this has been the best time to trap.  ONE CAT, THEN TWO Trapper Report - Feb.27.2023  "These 2 cats had been on my catch list since last November because they changed their feeding place and only appeared sometimes. But gradually they started coming regularly to another resident's garden to feed, and the owner informed me about her new guests. She started feeding them regularly in the morning and evening. The trapping date was on Monday morning, but because of the strong cold wind, only one already trapped cat appeared at feeding time and rushed through the garden. I decided to try again in the evening when the caretaker informed me that the A black and white cat was waiting for food in her garden. I prepared the trap with a small plate of dry and wet food, and it was not long before she went in and I could press CLOSE. As always, I covered the trap very quickly and moved him to anoth...
