MARCH 27, 2023 - TRAPPING REPORT & FOOD COLLECTION

MULTILINGUAL APPROACH

Living on Cumbre del Sol requires a multilingual approach to life. Although we should all know Spanish as a second language by now, it is good that so many of our trappers and feeders can work together in a common language for the benefit of our CumbreCats.

TRAPPER REPORT

"On Monday evening I was out in the Monte Cala area helping to translate between a backup cat feeder and a regular cat feeder, because there was another macho cat that needed to be caught. Thank goodness this macho CumbreCat turned up at his regular feeding time. I quickly prepared the trap with fish food, but the delicious smell attracted many other cats. Our CumbreCat's Spanish substitute feeder tried to keep the others busy eating for a while. My targeted CumbreCat only ate a piece at the entrance of the trap and disappeared. After a while, a black cat went in, to the end, and I closed the trap. There were at least 5 black cats in this area and Gosh, unfortunately, it was the wrong cat, as he was already neutered. I released him immediately, of course. The loud CLACK of the doors chased all the cats away. So we had to lure them back by shaking the dry food. Now I tried my best weapon, sardines with a strong smell. Well, it worked, they all came back, and I moved the trap several times to get closer to the target cat. Finally, after 45 minutes, he could no longer resist the delicious smell of the sardines and went in, but a neutered cat tried to follow him. Luckily, this neutered cat decided to get the food from outside, and I was able to press CLOSE. Yes! - the targeted CumbreCat was now inside. He had to stay in my house overnight, and I took him to Veronica the vet at 9am. 11:30 he was ready, and my co-worker helped me by picking up the cat from the vet. She let him recover until he was fully awake and released him to his home in the evening. Thank you all so much for the fantastic cooperation."
