FEBRUARY 25, 2023- TRAPPING & RAINBOW REPORTS

Image
TWO IN A MORNING February 22, 2023 - The TNR season is in full swing in Pueblo de la Luz thanks to our lovely CumbreCat attendant. She was able to set up a trap at her regular feeding site. She wanted to catch a young CumbreCat. Surprisingly, a white and ginger male gladly walked straight into the trap without much trouble, pressed the trigger and snapped - done. Trapper Report "I took this young male out of the trap and put him in a transport box. I took him to Veronica, the vet in our village of Benitachell. While I was doing this work, a friend of mine stayed behind to guard the trap, which was prepared. Again, a young grey tabby male went into the trap without much trouble and was caught. My friend covered the trap with a blanket until I returned from town. I was thrilled when I saw how lucky I had been. I immediately took him to Veronica. The first male had already been neutered and was sleeping in his box. I took him home to a quiet room where he could rest. Around noon, the...

On behalf of the CumbreCats Trap-Neuter-Return Campaign, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to our wonderful community for your continued financial support.  Because of loose change donated by 3 residents, and the Collection Cans from Pepe la Sal, the Farmacia, Victors Pet food store, MariPaz's restaurant and Veronica the vets, we rounded up 792 euros over the holidays.  Then we received a donation of 810 euros from AVID, Our Neighborhood Association for the promotion of the multicultural community in Benitachell, and the exchange of interests and information between the owners, the local authorities and VAPF. You can learn more about this community group by visiting their website - https://www.avib.org/en/ Your contributions have allowed us to move forward with our mission to bring about positive and healthy results for the feral cats in our community, and to promote solidarity among our residents. Through your generosity, we have been able to carry out our TNR pr...

YEAR 2022 IN REVIEW

TRAPPING UPDATES Monte Cala. 14 Begonias: 1 Olivos: 5 Pueblo de la Paz: 10 Magnolias: 23 Camelias: 10 Girasoles: 8 Enzimas: 1 Kalmias: 13 Lirios: 12 Atenea: 4 Dalias: 8 47 females, 39 males 3 ill - have been treated and released again. 2 kittens have been rescued and found a forever home. 9 cats had been hit by a car (the figure is only what I know ….it is surely more). 11 cats needed to be relieved of their suffering and were put to sleep. TRAPPER NEEDS The trapping season started very late this year because of the cold weather. The CumbreCats do not like to come early in the warming to feed, which makes trapping difficult. We have a few cats on our to-do list as usual, and we suspect that some cats have moved to private gardens where they feel safe and get food. We need to get a handle on this, and we need the help of caring people to do so. Please note: We always need accurate information if we are to set traps. We only have a few trappers, all are volunteers and some have full tim...

FEBRUARY 21, 2023 - TRAPPING & RAINBOW REPORTS

PRETTY WHITE AND BROWN TABBY COMPLETES THE COLONY   We have a great couple of CumbreCat lovers who live in Pueblo de la Paz and have supported us from the beginning. They donate their spare change to us all the time. They are wonderful carers and we really appreciate their cooperation. This year, this lovely retired couple finally managed to neuter all the CumbreCats from their area. There was only one sweet girl who needed to be neutered and the Paz couple were able to catch her and take her to Veronica, our vet. They also took care of the pick-up and release. PLUS they paid for the neutering, so our reserves were not affected. PLUS, PLUS they once again donated all their spare change. What amazing people! The kindness of our neighbours is sometimes overwhelming, and it makes us so proud to live in Cumbre del Sol. RAINBOW REPORT R I P - BIG BOY The CumbreCats regular feeder called one of our trappers to come and help him with one of his cats. Trapper Report "I was called to hel...

FEBRUARY 16, 2023 - TRAPPING REPORT

FIRST TRAPPNG REPORT OF THE NEW YEAR 2023 One of our trappers was up early and headed to the Camelias zone where she had her eye on 3 young CumbreCats who were now the right age to be castrated. TRAPPER REPORT "I had already practised a lot with the trap in November when I tried to catch their mother, so the kittens were not afraid of the trap. It did not take long before they ran into the trap again. At first, they played in and around the trap, but eventually 2 of the kittens were in the trap at the same time. It was an almost perfect catch! I arrived at the vet's office at 9am sharp and by noon the CumbreCats were ready for collection. They stayed indoors to recover from the anaesthetic and were released back where they had been caught around 7pm. Thank you to the dedicated CumbreCats feeders, dinner was waiting for them." WHY TRAPPING? The Problem: There are many feral and stray cats roaming freely in the streets of Cumbre del Sol, which is nice to see but it has beco...
