TRAPPING REPORT - DECEMBER 20, 2020

Image
The Trapping week started on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. Tina was up and out by 8:00 in the Magnolias zone where she prepared 3 traps but only a ear-tipped cat appeared. The cats all know now that the trappers are out to get them and their 6th cat sense is in alarm mode.  Tina waited patiently and fed the neutered one. The feeding noise lured a grey female mother with many kittens to Tina. The cat watched her from under the car. Tina tried to coax her into the trap with a bit of wet fishy cat food, which she enjoyed. Tina then prepared the trap with this food and the female entered, ate all the food, and satified left the cage. So, Tina restocked the trap with a sardine but the female showed no interest. So Tina tried some tuna, but that did not work either. So, Tina tried a biscuit, and the female cat took a tiny bite and disappeared again. The last attempt Tina poured out the sauce from the wet food into the trap dish and the cat got so crazy at the smell that she followe...

FUNDING & VET REPORT

Image
All the funds raised via the Christmas Raffle were delivered by our friend and neighbour Carol Lynn to our partner Veronica the Vet in our village of Benitachell. It was with grand gratitude that we were able to raise a good sum of money to tide us over the holiday season. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful community of generous business owners and neighbours who know the value of our campaign.  Veronica gave the trappers / feeders a 10KG bag of food and some much needed worm pills to treat some cats who need the medicine. We are so pleased with our partner who cares about the well being of our CumbreCats and our community. Every minute of every hour of every day we are trying to make a difference in our world by helping the cats of Cumbre. It is a  reality that Love and Kindness are never wasted. Truth is born through our actions and aspirations and in the kindness we offer. Thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way. KD. xx

TRAPPING REPORT - DECEMBER 13, 2020

This Trapping Week started in cold wet weather on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 with a the trapping team of Tina, Andrea and Robban.  Their efforts began at the Magnolias zone where 10 cats who were being fed and the team noticed that 6 of the cats had already been neutered. Luckily, a hungry macho entered the trap, at the wet cat food and fish tasters and was trapped in 5 minutes. The team decided to investigate in Pueblo de la Paz because some CumbreCats supporters alerted the team to a colony that needed attention. The team had a good look at the colony and sorted out that 4 cats had already been done, but the two who were still to be neutered did not appear. At 10:30, the captured cat was delivered to the vet. After being neutered, he was picked up at 13:00 and recovered at Tina's house till 15:30. He was returned and released.     The next day, Thursday, December 10, 2020 , the trapping team of Saskia, Andrea & Rohen went out with the traps under dark, clou...

TRAPPING REPORT - DECEMBER 5, 2020

The Trapping Week started bright and early on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 7:45. Tina's goal was to setup at the horse stables and finally trap the black male who has fathered many kittens in the area.  Mother and the kittens stayed in bed, but the father was hiding in the bushes. Tina spotted him and quickly prepared her trap with some tasty tuna pieces. She put the trap very close to him and then she hid herself behind the garbage bins.  Suddenly two more machos were strutting around the bated cage but luckily only the intended cat entered the trap and stepped on the trigger. After only 3 minutes, Tina had achieved her goal.   Next, Tina drove over to the Encimas zone. Here the cats watched her very carefully and suspiciously. They would appear for a short look and then disappear.  Finally, overcome with hunger, a very nice black lady appeared, entered the trap and tripped the trigger. By 21:15, Tina was able to drop both cats off at the vets and pick them up again...

❤️ THANK YOU to all of our community, friends, and neighbors abroad far who were able to purchase a gift certificate for neutering. And thank you to all those special people who dug into the back of their sofas and other strange places to find loose change rattling around and had the foresight to put it into a bag or jar and give us a call to come pick it up.  Through all of these efforts we are able to round up another batch of money for Veronica our vet to keep the CumbreCats programme active.  We welcome back Andrea, pictured here with Vet Veronica, who back to her job of trapping again. The trapping team will be happy to have you in action again. Xx

Considering that last FRIDAY FUNDRAISER was a bust due to pouring rain, we were able to get a good 2 hours of fundraising in today before it started to rain and then it was chaos.  Luckily lots of people turned out early and bought up all the cakes and cruised through all the treasures at the rastro. Big thank you goes out to Carol who treated us to mulled wine, sausage rolls and minced meat tarts.  Also once again,  I just want to say thank you to my bake sale team and to the rastro team who always do a great job - Trudi, Bruce, Leah, Margaret, Dennis, Miriam, Carol Lynn and Marianne.  GRAND TOTAL the two hours) 324, 27 euros
