MONTE CALA HAS A NEW FAMILY

TRAPPER REPORT

One of our part-time cat feeders in Monte Cala was informed by her neighbours about a new mother cat and her kittens. She went out, examined them all, and reported back to me. Together, we quickly devised a trapping plan. First, I focused on a mother cat with a very beautiful kitten that looked like a Siamese. As usual, the mother was black, like so many cats in that area.

Since the female cat was used to the feeder, who had fed her very little the evening before, the mother cat was quite hungry the next morning and already waiting when we prepared the trap. We used a remote-controlled trap because a few already neutered cats were hanging around. The feeder lured the others away with food, leaving the mother cat to enter the trap quickly. She was successfully trapped.

Since we were already in this area, we decided to continue trapping. We set up both traps, the normal one and the remote-controlled trap, and then the waiting started. A few cats appeared, danced around, and then disappeared. I was about to give up and close the trap when a huge male cat turned the corner. He was very interested in the tasty food in the trap.

I quickly prepared everything again and waited. He already had the scent of the food in his nose and came back. This time, the trap was open, he went in, and was successfully trapped.

MONTE CALA TRAPPING CONTINUES

TRAPPER REPORT

A couple of weeks later, we were back in Monte Cala to trap the remaining cats of the new family, but no cats were around. After setting up the first trap, a black cat appeared, but after a brief look and sniff, it disappeared again. This pattern repeated with a few other black cats for over an hour. Suddenly, a small black cat showed interest in the tasty trail of food. Step by step, she went into the trap, triggered it, and was caught. The neighbourhood feeder immediately covered the trap, and we transferred the cat into a metal transport box to free the trap for another capture.

Shortly after, a mother cat with two kittens appeared, sniffing and examining the remote-controlled trap. We quickly refilled the food bowls inside and hid behind the car. Luckily, she went in, and we closed the trap. The third female in this new colony was trapped.

Both cats were taken to Veronica and neutered. After recovering, Kathrin released them back in their home territory.

The first part of the trapping mission was successful, and the rest are on our list.

SUPERMAN OF LIRIOS IS A SUPERSTAR

Once again, our hats are off to celebrate the trapping efforts of our only male trapper. He handles the entire process, from trapping to vet visits to release. He is a real superstar. We call him Superman because he is an exceptional person who helps us tremendously. Bravo!

RAINBOW REPORT

We sadly report yet another hit-and-run accident. With speed limits reduced to 30 km/h, it’s hard to fathom how anyone could hit a cat and simply leave it behind. It boggles the mind and breaks our hearts. We are grateful to the neighbours who called the police and the town hall to ensure the cat was picked up. We haven’t heard if the cat was a domestic pet, so we assume it was one of ours.❤
