Community Feeders Are Very Important for Spotting Sick CumbreCats Cats

Trapper Report

For around 18 years, a large, handsome, feral tiger cat made his rounds among various trusted neighbors in Olivos, who met him with kindness and fed him breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Despite their efforts, he remained feral, hissing and swiping at any attempt to pet him.

During the winter months, it was noticed that he had a health issue in his mouth, with lots of drool, sometimes bloody, dripping from his mouth. He struggled more and more to eat dry kibble. Many attempts were made to trap him in various locations, but he wouldn't trust the traps. No matter how hungry he got, he would not go in.

One of our cat-loving neighbours persisted, continuing to serve him breakfast inside the trap every morning. Finally, the cat went all the way in. The trap closed, and he was taken to the vet early that morning. After sedating him, the vet inspected his mouth and found a terrible sight. Cancer had consumed part of his mouth, and the ulcers were preventing him from swallowing food.

It was a very painful way to go, but he had a long, good life here on the Cumbre, possibly one of our most senior Cumbre cats.

RIP Becky/El Turista, as he was known around here. A big thank you to our caring neighbour for helping to reduce his suffering.

**Condolences for the CumbreCats Killed by Drivers and now off to their Rainbow Roads**

We are saddened to report the loss of two beautiful cats on Panorama. A kind resident found a young cat that had been killed on this road and informed the police.

The second cat, a chipped and definitely domestic one, was also tragically found on Panorama Street. Veronica, our village vet, received the cat and has since informed the owners.

ATTENTION

Please take the time to educate new residents and tourists of Cumbre del Sol about our programme. CumbreCats provides a valuable volunteer service that benefits both the cats and the community.

### Benefits of Our Program:

1. **Cat Population Control**:

    - Feeding and caring for the cats helps in gaining their trust, making it easier to trap and treat them. This is a secure and humane method for controlling the cat population.

2. **Government Approval**:

    - Our program is approved and validated by the town hall, ensuring it meets all legal and regulatory standards.

3. **Community Safety and Comfort**:

    - Proper management of the cat population ensures that holidaymakers and residents are not overrun with cats, enhancing the living experience for everyone.

4. **Economic Value**:

    - The presence of a controlled cat population adds economic value to property resale and rental values.

Despite these benefits, our caregivers often face aggression from tourists and new homeowners who threaten the cats. Understanding and support from the community are crucial for the success of this programme.
