AUGUST 15, 2022 - TRAPPING REPORT
On 9 August 2022, our chief trapper received a call for help. This is her report.
"A community member from the Dalias zone sent me photos of some CumbreCats that had moved into her private garden. The photos showed that the adults had not been neutered.
I made an appointment to come to her garden. Equipped with two traps and 3 transport boxes, I arrived at the garden but it was locked and I could not enter. However, I saw a mother with her kittens, who were about 3 months old, sitting in the garden waiting for food.
The mummy immediately started watching me. I think she stared at me for at least 30 minutes. I shook the bag of biscuits to lure her closer to me. Little by little, she moved towards me. Very quickly I prepared my normal trap with food, activated it and hid behind the car.
I could see her circle the trap a few times. She was very hungry and entered the trap, touched the trigger and was caught. I was very happy to be successful - especially with the mum. I covered the trap, put her in the transport box and then put her in the car.
Finally the landlord's assistant arrived and I could enter the garden to catch more cats. I prepared the remote control trap with biscuits, but only the kittens came to eat. As usual, the kittens were not afraid to go into the trap. The second adult female was of course more cautious and did not enter the trap.
Meanwhile, in another part of the garden, I saw another white female lying on the ground watching me. I checked if she was interested in food by putting some moist fish food down for her. She enjoyed these test pieces. So I prepared the normal trap in this part of the garden.
I could not believe it, she grabbed a piece of fish with her extremely long neck and disappeared behind a bush. Then suddenly she came back to get the rest of the snack and touched the trigger of the cage. I was stunned. She was trapped too. I covered the trap.
Then I heard the assistant calling me to tell me that the father of all kittens was nearby. This CumbreCat, a beautiful black macho, was sitting in the distant trap happily eating the biscuit. I rushed into the kitchen and grabbed the command so I could push the door of the remote trap shut. YEAH a macho was trapped.
It was 11 am when I dropped her off at Veronica's. At 3 p.m. I picked her up and left her to recover at my house until 9 p.m. I had her in my room.
Needless to say, they were very happy to be back home. Mum was happy to be back with her kitten.
