TRAPPING REPORT - NOVEMBER 6, 2020

IT'S THE BIG 50!!!

A SUPER BIG HURRAY for the Trapping Team who have successfully trapped 50 cats to date. When you take into account that the first cat trapped was June 25th and no cats were trapped in August due to tourists... this is an AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT!!

The trapping week started on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Trapper Saskia was in the Olivos zone where she trapped a young white and grey male. This is one of four in a family who are slowing getting neutered. She trapped in the morning and took the cat to Veronica right away. The cat was released in the evening. Saskia wants to remind everyone to - Book a sterilization appointment to avoid clash with other surgeries that day.

On Monday, November 2, 2020, Head Trapper Tina met the Black Panther with his girlfriend. Tina set up her trap in the Monte Cala zone on Calle Zurbahan.

The Black Panther was an older cat with some grey hairs. He ended up in the trap with a young black female. The combined weight of the trap was 10,3kg!

The morning started actually in the Adelfas zone where there is a colony of cats and wild boars and there was 3 young abandoned puppies. But she had no success there so decided to venture over to Calle Zurbahan. There she discovered the Black Panther and his girl friend and they seemed to be waiting for her. They came towards the car and looked interested. They waited around while Tina prepared 2 traps. It was already 10:15. The cats were very hungry. They rushed into the cage, touched the trigger and were trapped by 10:20. At 10:30 Tina took them to the vet and picked them up at 14:00.

Veronica the vet was so impressed that Tina was able to trap the Black Panther! Both cats recovered in Tina's guestroom until she released them at 18:30

On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, MariPaz who is the owner of Como en Casa / Bar / Restaurant at the Cumbre Tennis and Paddle ball club area, trapped one of the ferals that live behind her establishment. She feeds and cares for these cats in the Pueblo de la Luz zone.

Cumbre Cats awards vouchers to people who know their ferals and want to trap them, as it is usually more easy to do, as the cats trust their feeder.

On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, Tina the Trapper was out again with her traps. She was going to try the Adelfas zone again, behind the Pepe La Sal supermarket.

It was raining and she found herself in the company of some small baby boars. She started early at 7:45. The first cats to come to the trap were fascinated by the smell of the tuna. Tina had covered the trigger with a light fleece, a female tabby did not see it and she was trapped in minutes.

The rest of the time proved more difficult because of the wild boars coming around looking hungry and then it started to pour down with rain. The boars and the cats seem to live in total peace together. The cats are not afraid of them, but they won't go towards the traps if the boars are around. In the end, Tina had to chase the boars away!

Tina put the traps out again once the rain calmed down. Finally at 9:50, two male cats entered the trap together. The trigger went off quickly with their combined weight.

At 10:00 they arrived at our vet and they were ready for pickup at 13:00. They all recovered in Tina's guestroom.

When Tina took the cats back to their home, she opened the carrier box doors the male cats disappeared like a shot into the woods but the female was still hungry and stuck around for a final snack.

On Thursday, November 5, 2020, trapper Saskia managed to capture two cats from the Olivos zone. It took a while for the cats, a black male and a black and white female, to enter the trap. Saskia left the trap in a quiet place, prepared a nibble trail towards the trap and then hid herself

Saskia was worried because it was a very windy day and everything was blowing all over, but she got lucky and both cats entered the trap.

She had both cats to the vet before 10:00 and the neutering of went well. Saskia later collected both cats and returned to her house where the cats could recover from their anesthetics. She release the cats at 19:00 with a dinner to aid in their recover and frightful events of the day.

-end-
