TRAPPING REPORT - September 23, 2020
TRAPPING REPORT
On Monday, September 21, 2020 three trappers were out and about in Cumbre in an effort to get some work done.
At 8:00, Hancy started to feed the feral cats on her street. She does this every day. Because she feeds them, she can get up close to them. Hancy grabbed one cat and put it in a carrier box. However, it was not happy about this event and jumped right out and escaped in a flash.
Luckily, he was a hungry young tabby boy looking for his breakfast, so when he came back to the food bowl, Hancy grabbed him again and put him into the carrier box once more. This time Hancy was quicker than the cat and got the door closed before he could free himself again!
He was secured by 8:40
The trappers were shocked to see that several cats were keen to enter the trap at one time. This is not good. It is too dangerous if there are 2 or 3 cats in one trap.
So they had to make sure that only one cat entered the trap and touched the trigger. Finally, a young female Bengal/tabby triggered the door and she was caught about 10:00
Tina took both cats down to Veronica the village vet at 10:45. She then picked them both up at 13:00.
The female recovered in a quiet room in Florence's house and she let her free about 18:00.
The male slept comfortably in Tina's bathroom. At 17:00, he was awaken and could not wait to go out of the box and back to his colony.
On Tuesday, September 23, 2020 the Trapping Team of Tina and Florence
were out early in the morning, 8:15am in the Monte Cala zone.
Finally, after about 15 minutes, the black cat, a young male, activated the trigger and the door shut. Tina quickly got him into the cat and off to the Vet Veronica by 9:30. What a winner!
Florence was over on Magnolias setting up her trap. Her snacks in the trap were attracting cats but they had already been neutered because they clearly were eartipped. A cat that was known to her, by the name of Tinoir, a young black macho, finally entered and tripped the trap door. Done!
She had this cat to Veronica the Vet by 10:45.
At 13:00, Tina fetched both cats. Tinoir recovered from his visit to the vet over at Florence's home and the other macho slept off his visit in Tina's bathroom. Both cats were released about 17:00 back to their previous locations to join their friends and family.
THE NEXT DAY
Tina and Jo went out to Monte Cala at 8:40. Jo is the newest on the Trapping Team. They prepared the trap together. They quickly spotted a black cat without an eartip.
This cat was not sure about the food in this cage and carefully watched them for a long time. He must have heard from his cat buddies that a friend was trapped yesterday at the same street corner.
After 10 minutes, the macho decided to check the food but it was very strange that he didn't like tuna. So they the team tried wet food, but no luck. They didn't want to give up so they tried dry biscuits and to their surprise, this is exactly what he wanted. He couldn't resist and started to munch away very happily. But, he also touched the trigger and down came the door of the trap. He was caught by 9:08 and off to the village vet.
Tina picked him up again by 13:00 and he recovered in her bathroom till 17:00. He was then released back to his friends. All, in all a good result and the team are getting faster and more efficient and it is good to see new trappers joining the team. GOOD WORK!
