TRAPPING REPORT - SEPTEMBER 19, 2020
TRAPPING REPORTS
Early in the week, trapper Jacqueline set up a trap in her zone of Monte Cala. Since Jacky feeds so many cats, they are always around her home. However, many have fortunately been neutered and tipped already, so the challenge is trapping a new baby maker!
Finally around 10:45 a male tabby made his way into the trap and snapped the gate. He was whisked off to Veronica the Village Vet.
At 13:00 another team trapper, Jenny, picked him up in his cozy carrier box and took him home to recover. He was later released in the late afternoon to be reunited with is street gang.
Later in the week, Tina and Jenny were trapping at 8:15 on Calle Murillo, and it started to rain. At first it was just a sprinkle but then it started to pour down and all the cats disappeared. They had to try another idea.
Thirty minutes later, Tina found a dry place to set up the trap and try again. Well, it didn't take long and three hungry cats were crowded around the trap. By looking at their tipped ears, it was clear that only one to they was not neutered yet.
Finally, a ballsy boy cat who entered the trap, ate all the food, BUT did not step on the trigger and left with a full tummy! Adios amigos!!!
So, they moved the trap to a garden wall and tried again. Eventually, another young macho male was spying the trap through the bushes and tried to grab the snack with a his paw via the side of the trap. No luck so he jumped down. Then deciding to try again, he jumped back up the wall and looked at the entrance to the trap and thought, "hummm, this must be a trap", so jumped down again.
Finally, his curiosity got the cat and on his third visit to the cage he went inside and triggered the door shut. It was now 9:50.Tina took the macho boy about a year old to Veronica the vet. She fetched him sleeping in his padded transport box about 13:00 and he recovered and relaxed at her home until 17:30, when he was released into freedom.
NEW TRAP AND GIFT
In order to expand trapping efforts, a new trap was purchased with donations. There are now enough traps to cover a larger region and allow for new trappers to enter the efforts.
Veronica the Vet, who is very proud of us, and is happy that the trappers are keeping her busy, as the Covid situation has dug into her business as well, gifted the trappers with a new trap cover.
It is true, that working cooperatively with our local vet has proven to be both beneficial and rewarding. Grateful. xx
