CUMBRE DEL SOL CAT COLONIES FIRST. Current legal framework Law 7/2023, of 28 March, on the protection of animal rights and welfare, expressly recognises the existence of cat colonies and establishes the obligation of public administrations to guarantee their protection and management through the CER (Capture, Sterilisation and Return) method. Likewise, regional regulations and municipal ordinances implement this legal framework, granting local councils exclusive authority over the management and control of cat colonies. SECOND. LETTER FROM BEAR - A Recipent of the CumbreCats Elder Cat Programme

Good morning, everyone. My name is Bear, and I live on Cumbre del Sol, a lovely mountain community in the province of Alicante on the Costa Blanca. My passport says my name is Osito, which I prefer because it sounds more regal, of course. However, Mom insists on calling me Bear or, even worse, Beary-Bear. But she loves me so much that I'm willing to live with the little names she comes up with. Don’t tell her, but I am very fond of her too for a number of reasons. If she knew, I would probably never hear the end of it. My story began about eight years ago, more or less. The vet wasn’t quite sure. I don’t consider myself a real senior, although I am starting to feel the weather changes and the cold winters in Spain in my bones. Now, if you are a house cat, this is less of a problem because you have your heated mansion, your lovely warm basket, or your human’s bed to keep you warm.  Hello everyone! 🌟  We are the CumbreCats volunteers who have been working for the past 5 years to help 500 cats in La Cumbre .  We, with the backup of the local government, have established official cat colonies , easily recognizable by yellow signs with explanations in 3 languages. Our goal is to trap, neuter, and feed these cats, who contribute to the biological balance in La Cumbre by hunting rats and controlling the rodent population .  According to the law, if you have any problems with the cats or the colonies, you must contact the Benitachell Town Hall .  We have created colonies throughout La Cumbre and are looking for more volunteers. Join us! You will receive a special course and a municipal certificate . A cat deserves respect and a colony can not be taken away once it has been recognized! 😺  Thank you for your support!
